Design 9/Tech 5: School of Dance

Welcome to ARCH501-3, a 5th year studio at the Philadelphia University School of Architecture. This semester our project is a School of Dance. We have centered our research on the tools of time and movement, looking at the philosophical potential, as it relates to our program as well as the associated generative implications. Over the last 17 weeks, our studio has strived to create design methodologies which transcend standard means of design and documentation with the goal of producing system integration that achieves formal, functional and structural purity. The concepts presented embody strong design adgendas that are reflected through the application of systems (organizational, structural, mechanical, etc) and are reflected at multiple scales.

Studio ARCH501-3 is directed by Professor Jane Cespuglio, the 5th year coordinator for the architecture program at Philadelphia University. This class meets 3 times a week and the work has been broken down into a series of design briefs.

The studio is supported by a co-requisit class: ARCH511-3: Technology 5 – Advanced Laboratory. This class is directed by Adjunct Professor Christopher Boskey. Chris is a full time practioner with the award winning firm Erdy McHenry Architecture, llc. This class meets once a week and the work is focused on system integration as studied through a series of experiemental labs.
